Terms of Use
These terms cover your use of the DocSnap iPhone app. By using DocSnap you agree to them. They are deliberately short and plain.
DocSnap is also covered by Apple's Licensed Application End User License Agreement, which applies to every app distributed through the App Store: apple.com/legal/internet-services/itunes/dev/stdeula. Where these terms and Apple's EULA differ, Apple's EULA takes precedence.
What you get
A licence to use DocSnap on Apple devices you own or control, for personal or business purposes, in line with the App Store Terms of Service. The app is licensed, not sold.
Your documents are yours
Everything you scan, create or import in DocSnap belongs to you. The app stores it on your device. Your scans, photographs and PDFs are never uploaded.
If you choose to use DocSnap AI, the recognised text of the document you selected is sent to our service to produce the result you asked for, and is not stored afterwards. You keep every right in that text; we claim none. See the Privacy Policy for exactly what is sent and what is not.
Because your documents exist only on your device, keeping backups is your responsibility. An iPhone backup through iCloud or a computer includes DocSnap's documents; deleting the app deletes them.
DocSnap Pro
DocSnap is free to use for scanning, page editing, filters, PDF creation and export, and a monthly allowance of text recognition. DocSnap Pro unlocks unlimited text recognition, search inside recognised text, searchable PDF export, the PDF tools (merge, split, compress, PDF to images), signatures, password protection and advanced export.
DocSnap Pro is offered as an auto-renewing monthly or yearly subscription, or as a one-time Lifetime purchase:
- Prices are shown in the app in your own currency before you buy.
- Payment is charged to your Apple Account at confirmation of purchase.
- A subscription renews automatically unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. Your Apple Account is charged for renewal within 24 hours before the period ends.
- You can manage or cancel a subscription in Settings › your name › Subscriptions on your device. Deleting the app does not cancel a subscription.
- The Lifetime purchase is a single payment and does not renew.
- If a free trial is offered, any unused portion is forfeited when you buy a subscription.
Refunds are handled by Apple, not by us. Requests go through reportaproblem.apple.com.
What the Lifetime purchase includes
The Lifetime purchase and the subscriptions unlock the same features. They differ in one respect, and it is worth stating plainly rather than leaving it to be discovered.
The features that run on your iPhone are yours permanently. Scanning, text recognition, search inside recognised text, searchable PDF export, merge, split, compress, PDF to images, signatures, password protection, filters, page editing and advanced export are unlocked by the one-time purchase and stay unlocked. We do not take them away, they do not expire, and they do not stop working if this service is discontinued or if you never connect to the internet again.
DocSnap AI is different, because it costs money every time it runs. It does not run on your iPhone — it runs on servers we pay for, per request. A one-time payment cannot fund an unlimited recurring cost, so the Lifetime purchase includes a monthly allowance rather than unlimited use:
- 30 DocSnap AI requests per calendar month, for as long as we offer the DocSnap AI service.
- One request is one thing you asked for: a summary, a question, an information extraction, or a translation — however long the document is. A hundred-page summary is one request, not a hundred.
- Smart renaming and automatic document labelling cost nothing, and neither does anything that runs on your iPhone: scanning, text recognition, PDF creation and editing, and search never use the allowance.
- A request that fails — no connection, a service problem, a document we could not use — does not count.
- The allowance resets at the start of each calendar month. Unused requests do not carry over.
- DocSnap AI requires an internet connection and is subject to the service remaining available.
The current allowance is shown in the app under Settings › DocSnap AI, and on the purchase screen before you buy. We may increase it. We will not reduce it below the figure shown at the time of your purchase.
Subscriptions include a substantially larger monthly DocSnap AI allowance, sized so that ordinary use does not meet it. It is a limit rather than an unlimited service, because the cost behind it is real and variable; we do not describe it as unlimited.
If DocSnap AI is ever discontinued, the local Pro features you bought remain unlocked. That is the part of the purchase that does not depend on us.
Acceptable use
Do not use DocSnap to break the law, to copy documents you have no right to copy, or to attempt to interfere with the app's operation. You are responsible for what you scan and for whom you share it with.
What DocSnap does not promise
DocSnap is provided as is. Text recognition is performed by Apple's Vision framework and, like all text recognition, is not perfect: it can misread words, particularly with poor lighting, unusual fonts or handwriting. Do not rely on recognised text for anything where an error would matter without checking it against the original.
Similarly, PDF compression results depend entirely on what your pages contain, and password protection uses the standard PDF encryption provided by Apple's PDFKit. It is appropriate for ordinary confidentiality, not for protecting information against a determined attacker.
DocSnap AI
DocSnap AI produces summaries, answers, extracted data, translations and suggested names using an AI model. Its output can be wrong. It can misread a figure, miss a clause, or state something the document does not say. Every summary and answer shows the page it came from precisely so that you can check it.
What DocSnap AI produces is information, not advice. It is not legal, financial, tax, medical or professional advice of any kind, and it is not a substitute for reading the document or for consulting someone qualified. Do not make a decision that matters on the basis of an AI summary without reading the source pages.
The feature depends on an internet connection and on a third-party AI provider, so it may be slow, temporarily unavailable, or withdrawn. Scanning, text recognition, PDF creation and everything else in DocSnap continue to work without it.
To the extent permitted by law, we are not liable for lost documents, lost data or consequential loss arising from use of the app. Nothing here limits rights you have under consumer law in your country, which may give you protections these terms cannot take away.
Changes
These terms may change as the app changes. The current version always lives at this address, with the date of the last update at the top.
